What the tables show

  • Masovian has the largest number of entities in all 15 industries. In absolute numbers the largest voivodeship leads everywhere – the location quotient corrects for size.
  • The highest location quotient in the table is Local government and public institutions in Lublin: 2.22, meaning the industry’s share among the voivodeship’s entities is 2.22 times its share in Poland.
  • The largest of our industries by count is Construction and trades (594,021 entities, 12.9% of all in Poland); the smallest is Local government and public institutions (27,144, 0.6%).

The quotient describes the structure of the register. It does not explain why an industry is more frequent in a region, and we do not draw such conclusions.

Definitions

  • Location quotient (LQ). The industry’s share among all entities of the voivodeship divided by the industry’s share among all entities in Poland. 1.00 means the same share as in Poland, above 1 a larger share, below 1 a smaller one.
  • Entities. National economy entities in the REGON register declaring business activity, classified by their predominant activity (PKD 2007).
  • Industry. One of our 15 industries, defined as a set of PKD 2007 divisions (or section C, H, K, or subclass 47.91.Z for e-commerce). The composition is listed on each industry page.

Methodological notes

  • Source file: GUS, quarterly information on national economy entities in the REGON register, table 1, as of 30 June 2026, published 16 July 2026 (XLSX). Check: for every industry the 16 voivodeships plus “no voivodeship” add up to the total for Poland.
  • The Polish share in the quotient includes entities without a voivodeship (1,282 in total); their effect on the result is negligible.
  • Industries can overlap (divisions 10–11 belong to both manufacturing and agriculture & food), so the counts must not be added up: the sum of the 15 industries is 3,190,291, not a number of distinct entities.
  • Predominant activity is declared by the entity itself and may not reflect what it actually does today. These are official statistics, not records of our database.
