What the Healthcare and wellness industry covers

The industry brings together two worlds that the PKD classification keeps apart. The first is healthcare and social work (divisions 86–88): hospitals, clinics, medical and dental practices, physiotherapy and long-term care. The second is personal care services from division 96: hairdressers, beauticians, nail studios, spas and saunas.

We combine them because their purchasing needs are similar. A dental practice and a beauty salon are both small service premises with a treatment chair, equipment, consumables and an appointment book. Suppliers of chairs, booking systems, disinfectants or workwear serve both.

Pharmacies, medical supply shops and pharmaceutical wholesalers are trade and are not part of the industry. Gyms and fitness clubs are classified by PKD as sport (division 93).

Number of companies and contacts

The REGON register lists 472,794 entities in this industry across Poland (GUS, as of 30 June 2026); the breakdown by voivodeship is in the table below. That is the size of the market, not the number of our records. Our own database (196,499 companies, as of 17 September 2026) is one of our sources and covers voivodeships unevenly, so the number of records for your selection is available on request – database status.

Classification

Scope by PKD 2007 and PKD 2025

Healthcare moved from section Q to R, and personal services from S to T; the division numbers stayed. The internal changes matter: group 86.9 has been split into eight classes, so physiotherapists, psychologists and dietitians can be told apart, and hairdressers and beauticians have separate codes. The distinction only works for companies with an updated entry.

Q 86.10.Z → R 86.10.Z
Hospital activities.
Q 86.21.Z, 86.22.Z → R 86.21.Z, 86.22.Z
General and specialist medical practice.
Q 86.23.Z → R 86.23.Z
Dental practice.
Q 86.90.A → R 86.95.Z
Physiotherapy – in PKD 2025 a class of its own within group 86.9, which is now divided into eight classes.
Q 86.90.E → R 86.93.Z, 86.99.B, C
Psychologists and psychotherapists (86.93.Z), dietitians (86.99.B), speech therapists (86.99.C) – previously one catch-all subclass.
S 96.02.Z → T 96.21.Z, 96.22.Z
Hairdressing and beauty treatment – PKD 2025 separates hairdressers (96.21) from beauty care (96.22).

Left code: PKD 2007, right: PKD 2025. Source: GUS, Polish Classification of Activities PKD 2025. The codes describe the scope of the industry – they are not a promise of a filter: today’s records mostly carry the source category, and a PKD code only where one is available. Whether you can select by a specific code is confirmed before you order. More: PKD 2025 and company lists.

Professional practice, healthcare entity and salon – three legal regimes

A doctor may see patients in their own professional practice or work for a healthcare entity – a clinic or hospital. Both require an entry in the register of healthcare providers. For a list this has an important consequence: the same doctor may be registered as a practice at several addresses where they see patients.

A hair or beauty salon is not subject to any industry register. Our sources here are business directories and maps, and turnover is high.

An individual practice carries the doctor’s name, so the record is personal data. The export contains only data about the business – name, practice address and publicly listed contacts. It does not and never will contain patient data or health information. Advertising medicinal products to people authorised to prescribe them is additionally governed by the Polish Pharmaceutical Law (Articles 52 et seq.).

Sample enquiry

We distribute dental materials. We are looking for dental practices and clinics (PKD 86.23.Z) in Poznań and Poznań county, one record per address. We want to send a catalogue by post and arrange visits by our representative. Please send the number of records and the price.

This is a model enquiry, not a completed order. If you give us PKD codes, we will tell you how far they can be applied to our data – today the records mostly carry the source category.

What the export does not include

  • the doctor’s specialisation and licence number
  • information on a contract with the National Health Fund (NFZ)
  • the number of surgeries, chairs or beds
  • price lists and the range of treatments
  • any patient or client data

Where to check a company in this industry

Register of Healthcare Providers (RPWDL)
The register is public (Article 106(1a) of the Polish Medical Activity Act). It is kept by the voivodes (healthcare entities) and by the professional bodies of doctors, nurses and midwives, physiotherapists and laboratory diagnosticians (professional practices).
Register of Schools and Educational Institutions (RSPO)
Useful as a supplement: post-secondary schools and institutions training for medical and beauty professions.
CEIDG search
The official source for salons run as sole traders – status and activity codes.

Questions

Healthcare and wellness: questions about the export

No. Information about a contract with the National Health Fund is not part of the export. In records from the RPWDL register, however, professional practices can be distinguished from healthcare entities, which roughly separates small practices from clinics.

No, that is how the register works: a practice can have several places where services are provided. On request we keep one record per person or one per address.

In PKD 2007 they share code 96.02.Z. We separate them by name and source category, and for companies with a new entry, where the code is available, by codes 96.21.Z and 96.22.Z.

Commercial information may be sent by email or phone only with the recipient’s prior consent (Article 398 of the Polish Electronic Communications Law; the provision does not distinguish between consumers and businesses) – the export does not include such consent. The data is meant for postal mail, preparing visits, CRM enrichment and market analysis. Details: B2B telemarketing and email in Poland after the change.
