What the Finance and insurance industry covers

In PKD the financial sector is three divisions: financial services (64) – banks, leasing, lending, holdings; insurance and pension funding (65); and auxiliary activities (66), which include agents, brokers, credit intermediaries, investment advisers and loss adjusters.

The pyramid here is unusually steep. There are relatively few banks and insurers, and the financial supervisor publishes lists of them – an address list adds nothing. The value of the data lies in division 66: the network of small intermediaries through which financial products actually reach customers.

Bureaux de change, pawnshops and debt collectors form separate groups – on request they can be included or left out. Accounting offices belong to professional services.

Number of companies and contacts

The REGON register lists 116,621 entities in this industry across Poland (GUS, as of 30 June 2026); the breakdown by voivodeship is in the table below. That is the size of the market, not the number of our records. Our own database (196,499 companies, as of 17 September 2026) is one of our sources and covers voivodeships unevenly, so the number of records for your selection is available on request – database status.

Classification

Scope by PKD 2007 and PKD 2025

Section K “Financial and insurance activities” carries the letter L in PKD 2025. Beware of a mix-up: the letter K now stands for telecommunications and IT. Divisions 64–66 and most codes stayed; holdings and funds (groups 64.2 and 64.3) were restructured.

K 64.19.Z → L 64.19.Z
Other monetary intermediation – commercial and cooperative banks.
K 64.20.Z → L 64.21.Z, 64.22.Z
Activities of financial holding companies; in PKD 2025 holding companies (64.21) and financing conduits (64.22) are separate.
K 64.92.Z → L 64.92.A, B
Other credit granting; PKD 2025 separates pawnshops (A).
K 65.12.Z → L 65.12.Z
Other personal insurance and non-life insurance.
K 66.19.Z → L 66.19.Z
Other activities auxiliary to financial services – including credit intermediaries and advisers.
K 66.22.Z → L 66.22.Z
Activities of insurance agents and brokers.

Left code: PKD 2007, right: PKD 2025. Source: GUS, Polish Classification of Activities PKD 2025. The codes describe the scope of the industry – they are not a promise of a filter: today’s records mostly carry the source category, and a PKD code only where one is available. Whether you can select by a specific code is confirmed before you order. More: PKD 2025 and company lists.

Agent, multi-agent and broker – who is who

An insurance agent acts on behalf of one insurer, a multi-agent on behalf of several. A broker acts for the client and needs a licence from the supervisory authority (Article 34 of the Polish Insurance Distribution Act). They all have the same code 66.22.Z, and the difference only shows in the register of insurance intermediaries kept by the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF).

An agent is most often an individual running a business, not infrequently on the side. The record is therefore personal data, the address may be private and the phone number a mobile. If you plan to call with an offer, you need prior consent (Article 398 of the Polish Electronic Communications Law); without it, a letter is what remains.

In division 64, holdings deserve attention. The holding code is used by companies that only own shares in other companies – they have no customers, office or staff. If your target is active financial companies, they have to be excluded.

Sample enquiry

We provide policy administration software. We are looking for multi-agencies and brokers (PKD 66.22.Z) in the Mazowieckie voivodeship, companies and records with a website first. We do not need holdings or banks. Please send the number of records and the price.

This is a model enquiry, not a completed order. If you give us PKD codes, we will tell you how far they can be applied to our data – today the records mostly carry the source category.

What the export does not include

  • the KNF register entry number and type of intermediary
  • the insurers or banks an agent works with
  • portfolio size and number of clients
  • information on licences and permits
  • lists of bank branches and outlets

Questions

Finance and insurance: questions about the export

The PKD code is shared. We separate them by name (“broker”, “multi-agency”) and source category, which gives an approximate result. A definite answer for a specific company comes from the KNF register of insurance intermediaries.

Not as separate register records – a bank is one legal person with one registered office. Branches may appear if they come from a directory or map; on request we remove them.

In PKD 2007 holdings have code 64.20.Z. Where a record has a PKD code we exclude them by code; otherwise we limit the selection to records with a website or phone number. Please mention this in your enquiry.

Commercial information may be sent by email or phone only with the recipient’s prior consent (Article 398 of the Polish Electronic Communications Law; the provision does not distinguish between consumers and businesses) – the export does not include such consent. The data is meant for postal mail, preparing visits, CRM enrichment and market analysis. Details: B2B telemarketing and email in Poland after the change.
